Superheroine of the Night: Nina Dobrev

Of all the — mostly really quite lovely — dresses on this red carpet Nina’s is the one that hits all the heroine chic boxes.

It’s a bright color, an unusual material, an active silhouette, and it has traditional superheroine elements such as the chest cutout and the stiff mini skirt.

And the sleek ponytail completes the look. Also, she’s adorable. A magical girl!
Her closest competition in the heroine chic department is Jennifer Lawrence:

I like that her dress has an edge to it. It’s weird because I don’t love her acting (which puts me in opposition to critics and fans alike, I realize) but I adore her in interviews and appearances. She always comes off smart and funny and well-rounded…

And she is stunning. Although they totally lean heroine chic, I don’t really love any of the pieces of this dress. But put all together she looks amazing. Also the red lip makes this look.

This is AWFUL. Really, really, bad. But if she is trying to look like a supervillain (think demented Gothamite type) she’s done it.

This I like. It has a flowy Themysciran (Grecian) thing going on, which is classic, but it’s also a little cheeky.

I especially like how it shows off her playing card tattoo. That is super heroine chic.

So congrats Magical Nina! But it’s a win all around.
