Wonderland is probably most often used as a metaphor for madness; as the text directs us. But whether Wonderland is mental dysfunction or simply a childish dream the lesson most important to me is that Alice has complete control over it. Alice gets herself into, around, and out of Wonderland all by herself.

“You’re nothing but a pack of cards!”

The other panelist Elseachay put together the following presentation on “closet costumes” which is the other side of the mirror equivalent of my ready-to-wear outings. I deconstruct costumes to create “real world” fashions and she uses “real world” clothing to create costumes. The results by definition meet in the middle: mirror images!

I’d like to set up a schedule of theme weeks (ex. Pepper Potts) and have a new post each day (ex. Monday: Music) and cover a wide variety of topics such as History, Fandom, Portrayal etc. and of course spotlighting fashion and how to emulate it. If I were to create Red Carpet Superhero on tumblr for this purpose, should I move the Superheroine of the Night, Ready-to-Wear Superhero, and miscellaneous heroine chic posts there as well?

This ISN’T RTW superhero in the sense of building an outfit around a superhero’s supersuit but it IS RTW superhero in the sense of basing an outfit on a superhero, in this case Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers.

Most comic book superheroes share values such courage or compassion or sass or arrogance. Heroic qualities, if you will. But then then have the little quirks that set them apart from each other. For example, a love of flight and a dedication to the military are important aspects of Carol’s personality.

I’ve been looking for an appropriate to Carol Air Force t-shirt for a long time. This, still, isn’t quite it; I don’t think Carol would find the lyric-pic as cute as I do. But it IS the logo and it IS a female cut and NOT pink, strangely low-cut, or splashed with “I love My Airman” or “Proud Mom”. So.

And it IS cute for me Another option could be a Star Wars tee or NASA.

Boston born and bred. But, let’s be real, Carol would wear this around just to annoy Tony Stark.

Any skinny jeans in traditional blue work, these are Guess because I like Guess! But Carol wouldn’t wear pumps with them, she doesn’t even wear heels in most pictures of her redesigned uniform. Therefore, hot but flat red boots. These two items DO evoke her supersuit, yay for versatility!

Flying is freedom, it’s complete freedom. When kids misbehave, they’re grounded. When adults have to accept their limitations, they’re grounded. I wear a fashion-bomber jacket as my main Winter coat because it reminds me of the W.A.S.P.s and Amelia Earhart

and Wendy Darling and Daenerys Targaryen

and Carol Danvers and flying and freedom.

You can’t take the sky from me.

The dog tags, of course, can be worn with absolutely anything or everything.

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé

The texters were correct, Naomi Watts is my superheroine of the night. And it’s a stunning dress, too:

It makes a statement.

Right??

But this is my favourite picture: the superheroine smiling at her adoring public. Perfect Random People backdrop, complete with the attention seeker in the top left, and whoever decided to have the fashion sketches on the walls was a genius. Plus they are so cute.

AND THEN, she showed up at the after-party wearing this:

Naomi!! Somebody give her a cape already.

Anyway, other than Aaron Tveit (swooooon), the best part of the broadcast was Little Q:

She is a star. She is a superhero. She is royalty.

That controversy exists around a nine year old who carries puppy purses everywhere she goes is pretty much everything that is wrong with society and social media and satire. All of those things have a good side, but that is the dark and ugly side.

Quvenzhané is a warrior. She’s a warrior.

There were a few princess dresses on the red carpet last night. But, come on, we gotta give it to the nine year old wearing the jeweled headband. She could wear exactly this to the Magic Kingdom. In fact, Disney should invite her right now. She should get a day.

Let’s get it out of the way: She. Is. Stunning. I started with this shot because she’s so stunning she doesn’t look real to me. And as silly as it sounds, the bombshell hair and make-up are entirely in keeping with female superhero appearances:

FINALLY someone wore no holds barred heroine chic this season.

1. It’s pants.
2. She’s got a scarf-cape.
3. Bracer-bracelets!
4. Cleavage window.
5. Aforementioned bombshell hair and make-up.

AND THEN she showed up to the Elle Style Awards in this:

Florence Welch (in Givenchy) is a druid who may or may not have killed-and-skinned a dragon to make this.

Alicia Keys is a warrior pin-up (compliment).

Carly Rae Jepson (in Roberto Cavalli) is a sorceress.

Or possibly the personification of Dark Magic. Which makes Carly Rae Jepson about 400 times more awesome, ne?

And Kimbra is a fairy.

Like. For real, she is dressed as a FAIRY.

With her Grammy (for Record of the Year: Someone That I Used To Know) she looks like the Muse of Music (whose name is unfortunately Euterpe).

And then for the after party she turned into Iris, goddess of the rainbow.

I think Bonnie here falls into that second category. Her hair is CRAZY. But it’s her hair. She plays with it. That’s her thing. Looking closely:

I see it’s not half-shaved as I thought when I first saw her. It’s two-toned and it’s styled kinda whackadoo and frankly, that’s awesome.

Last night I tweeted that I wanted to cut up her dress because, lovely as it is, it was only kinda heroine chic, especially in comparison to her hair.

Given that, there’s no way anybody else gets the title.
