It’s not hard to find superheroine looks at the cray-cray world of the MTV Video Music Awards (or any Awards awarded by MTV or almost any music awards — there’s just something about music that translates to more cotumey looks…and there is nothing bad about that!). It’s mostly hard to narrow down the cray-cray into authentic heroine chic. Miley Cyrus absolutely looked like a comic book character last night but she didn’t read heroine chic at all.
THIS is heroine chic. This is a Look but it’s still a Red Carpet Look. It’s over the top but it’s not big top — to be fair it’s maybe not over the top ENOUGH for this venue. But Sarah wasn’t performing or presenting or accepting an award so she didn’t have to answer to anyone. And Miley didn’t have that luxury so it’s not really fair to compare the two. Still as far as being superheroine of the night, Miley missed the mark and Sarah swooped in to take the prize. Read the rest of this entry »
Well, that was easy.
It’s generally easier to find the superheroes at music events and this year’s Billboard Music Awards was no exception. For example, Usher:
I don’t want to play Team Peeta versus Team Gale. However:
I’ll let Miley (as Lilo on SNL) say it:
Wonder Woman has a new costume.
I like a lot of this. I like the top, I can get behind the jacket, she looks fashionable and yet tough. The gold looks heavy and it’s a little too throwback to the early nineties for me but overall, I like it. Just one thing.
Wonder Woman is wearing Liquid Leggings.
Gadgets. Everybody has a few and face it, we’re only gonna keep getting more (until they start making cyber implants). But hey, gadgets are entirely Geek Chic:
I secretly like Megan Fox. She says too much, it endears her to me. So does the Star Wars shirt and the fact that she reads Gen 13.
Continuing the theme of starlets who purport to read comics, here’s Miley Cyrus and her gadget of choice:
There were a few notables. Kristin Cavallari’s silver dress has a certain superheroine appeal. Katy Perry’s turquoise get up is incredibly heroine chic. But Miley — Miley gave us THREE heroine chic outfits.
This is what a superheroine wears out, off duty but still edgy and ready to rumble. And that award looks lethal, I like it Canada!
I think Ke$ha wants to be Cher.
She wasn’t performing in this get up but she is clearly putting on a show. Of course she’s not alone in this:
Also, Neil Gaiman was there:
And he looks adorable!! (If you haven’t seen Coraline, go get it! I prefer it to Up. There, I said it. And if you haven’t read the book, eep! Go get that now, too. No, really, NOW.)
Thank you, Oscar, for giving us so much to talk about.
See you next year!
Okay, she is not my pick for Best Dressed (!) but she is my pick for Most Superheroine-y. And it’s not just because she has all sorts of experience with the whole secret identity thing (it helps) but look:
She looks like a bruiser in a ballgown. She looks like she is hulking up! Look!
