Superheroes at the Met: January Jones

Her bodice is amazing. It’s the definition of heroine chic. But the best part of this image is that smile. I’ve professed my affection for Ms. Jones and her Frosty Performance but I love to see her look so happy.

Superheroine of the Night: Gwyneth Paltrow
Posted: May 9, 2012 Filed under: Red Carpet Fashion | Tags: gwyneth paltrow, superhero actor 1 Comment »I know it seems redundant at this point and I know I am on a Pepper high, but, well, LOOK:

1. It’s silver.
2. It’s a mini.
3. It has scaly pockets.
4. The CUT.
5. Switch the shoes for tall boots and she’s off the PAGES.
6. But those are some killer Pepper Potts stilettos.
Bow Ties are Cool at the Kids Choice Awards

Here’s Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. Of One Direction, the latest boy band craze. I haven’t actually ever heard One Direction but I’m pretty sure that both “boy band” and “craze” disqualify them from the hipster scene. So does that mean bow ties are ACTUALLY cool (aka “mainstream”) and therefore also disqualified? How will mainstreamers be able to identify hipsters if the mainstreamers are the ones wearing the bow ties and suspenders?! I am so confused!

I’ll let Miley (as Lilo on SNL) say it:
Jennifer Lawrence’s Heroine Chic
Posted: March 23, 2012 Filed under: Event Fashion | Tags: hunger games, jennifer lawrence, superhero actor 1 Comment »The Hunger Games opened today and as far as I can tell it is all anyone wants to talk about. And when I say anyone, I mean everyone. Twitter, tumlbr, all the blogs I follow, my co-workers, my family, their friends, my friends…everyone! And every advertiser out there is trying to attach THE HUNGER GAMES to their product no matter how absurd it might be. Which sort of makes sense when you think about The Capitol and the way the media are used in the series. It kinda should be absurdist. And if we follow through to the logical next step, Katniss should be dressed like a hero. Right? So let’s see how J-Law does.

YES. Jennifer and her stylists definitely took the “girl on fire” idea to heart. She’s sporting golds and reds in a majority of her looks for this media blitz. Staring with this was smart, it makes a bold statement right away. It’s VERY heroine chic. Cut the skirt above the knee and boom, super-costume. Read the rest of this entry »
Superheroes at the Oscars: Rose Byrne

Hello heroine chic! Rose presented along with the other Bridesmaids and represented the entire cast of X-Men First Class. Okay that last bit only for those of us who care about superheroes at the Oscars, but still true. Her geek cred goes further back, however. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away Rose Byrne was:
Superheroes at the Oscars: Batmen
Posted: February 28, 2012 Filed under: Red Carpet Fashion | Tags: batman, christian bale, george clooney, octavia spencer, oscars, people dressed as objects, stacey keibler, superhero actor Leave a comment »I know George Clooney doesn’t like to think about that time he played Batman. I know Bat-fandom, comic fans, cinephiles, and the general population don’t like to think about that time he played Batman. But you know. He did once play Batman.

He knows I’m talking about this and is trying to hurry Stacey on. George, you know she’s wearing ridiculous heels and her mobility is severely impaired by that gorgeous gold dress so you should be more of a gentleman and let go your evils of the Bat hang ups. I bet Stacey thinks it’s awesome you once played Bruce Wayne. She totally seems like a girl who’d like Batman.
Superheroes at the Oscars: Emma Stone
Posted: February 28, 2012 Filed under: Red Carpet Fashion | Tags: emma stone, ms. marvel, naomi watts, nicole kidman, oscars, robert downey jr, spider-man, superhero actor Leave a comment »Tony and Pepper were flawless Sunday night, but there were a few other superheroes on the red carpet (not as many as last year, we failed to complete a Bingo). Maybe Gwen Stacey doesn’t count as a superhero?

But Emma Stone does.
Superheroine of the Night: Gwyneth Paltrow
Posted: February 27, 2012 Filed under: Couples Fashion, Red Carpet Fashion | Tags: gwyneth paltrow, iron man, oscars, robert downey jr, superhero actor 2 Comments »It was not an Oscars for heroine chic. Watching E’s and then ABC’s Red Carpet, at 8PM I had but one passable contender for SotN and it was J-Lo. J-Lo! But then Gwyneth arrived and saved the night exactly as a fashion superheroine should:

With a cape.

Superheroine of the Night: Emma Stone

True she could almost be the Joker. But the details make it come across more like a uniform than a suit. Fine line but that’s what this website is all about. Here’s the long look:
