I remember Keke from the movie Akeelah and the Bee in which the following quote (by Marianne Faithful) in a central theme:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
You go girl.
Katy Perry didn’t pull off just one cracktastic outfit at the VMAs. She pulled off FIVE. She’s like if Jerrica Benton decided she was tired of dealing with the rest of her band and got Synergy to make her into ALL the Holograms, not just Jem:
She spins me right round, baby! Like a record!
The title of this post is not meant to refer to the fact that newly single Zac Efron was photographed with every young woman at the awards show (but just sos you know, he was). No, it refers to the parade of actresses 16 to 26 that peopled the Peoples Choice “red” (it’s blue) carpet.
Let’s start with MY choice for Best New TV Drama, here are the Hellcats (Aly Michalka and Ashley Tisdale):
1. I called her Wonder Woman here.
2. I heart That Thing You Do.
Not everybody could pull this off (I ADORE the runway of this Marchesa creation), but Katy does. She looks stylish and fun and she’s right that it reads “Ice Skater” but somehow it all works together and avoids trashy and trying to hard (see: Ke$ha for both).
But the single sleeve was also a trend:
There were a few notables. Kristin Cavallari’s silver dress has a certain superheroine appeal. Katy Perry’s turquoise get up is incredibly heroine chic. But Miley — Miley gave us THREE heroine chic outfits.
This is what a superheroine wears out, off duty but still edgy and ready to rumble. And that award looks lethal, I like it Canada!
Katy’s performance attire has been likened to Wonder Woman by more than just me — she tends to wear teeny and bright and I guess Diana’s the most mainstream superheroine so even if it’s not quite stars and stripes, she’s a brunette in a super-hero outfit, therefore: Wonder Woman.
But here she is out and about:
Rubber again! She is taking this superheroine thing seriously. And that could easily be an update on Wonder Woman. But look at the whole dress:
In my first post to this blog I introduced a German fashion superheroine, and the finale of Germany’s Next Top Model proves the country has caught on.
This is Alisair, strutting in full on heroine chic.
Christina wasn’t all alone in her glam. It’s a glitzy show.
Here’s Sandy, looking amazing. The best part of this dress is the back:
I think Ke$ha wants to be Cher.
She wasn’t performing in this get up but she is clearly putting on a show. Of course she’s not alone in this:
