Anne Hathaway is having a good year. She got married. She was the most successful part of The Dark Knight Rises. And now she’s in one of the most anticipated films of the year, and garnering Oscar buzz to boot.
Speaking of boots…
I love how dramatic this is. I love how architectural it is. I love how heroine chic it is. And I love how Betty Draper or Emma Frost it isn’t.
Yesterday as I followed the ‘Emmys’ tags on twitter and tumblr I realized some people are actually invested in the competition. I can’t do that, I’d just get depressed. The show and the awards awarded were so predictable this year…as they are every year… I mean, they were trying to call Homeland winning over Mad Men an upset but was anyone actually surprised? Especially by the time the announcement was made. I also don’t watch for the “comedy” but I’m not sure anyone does. The most entertaining thing Jimmy Kimmel did was throw his parents out of the theater, and only because I found myself wondering what it’s like to be Jimmy Kimmel’s parents. Human relations I find eminently entertaining, actors trying to sell their comedic bits while simultaneously trying to convince us their above selling their comedic bits, not so much. I imagine you now expect me to say I watch for the fashion. And I do, of course, this IS a fashion blog, if a bit of a slanted one. But fashion isn’t just what they’re wearing. Fashion is the whole package. And Lucy Liu absolutely stood out there:
She looked AMAZING. She wore armor, and she sold it. SUPER. HEROINE. WARRIOR. CHIC.
Emmys have been given! But don’t worry, you didn’t miss the big show (that’s next Sunday). No, Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards were presented Saturday and a proper red carpet accompanied the event. Game of Thrones won big with six statues for all that behind the scenes magic that makes the on screen magic pop. I’m still mad that Lena Heady wasn’t recognized with an acting nom, but at least the costumes won. The Creative Arts Emmy win I’m happiest for is Outstanding Children’s Program Wizards Of Waverly Place (Disney Channel). It was outstanding and I miss it. Also standing out:
Miranda Cosgrove is this adorably funky dress. I love the dress and love the shoes with it. The make-up looks heavy-handed but it might just be the glare of the sun. All in all, cute and reads as a twist on Zatanna.
You know, when I suggested that Gwyneth Paltrow reads my blog I was kidding. But:
RDJ wore Ready-to-Wear Iron Man to comic con. Like. Literally.
It’s best summed up by a comment that flew past my twitter feed while I was on vacation last week, a comment I just sort of giggled at while on the beach and forgot about until I saw THIS:
“I see Tony Stark wore his Robert Downey Jr. Suit to comic con this year.”
It’s hard for a guy to win Superhero of the Night at a blacktie event. There are those — like Alan Cummings — who go for it and get rewarded for their weirdness (though note that I labelled him a villain). But there’s just not that much play for the boys side. Mostly everybody looks like this:
Now before you go pointing out my Spidey-bias (note: I am totally biased) Andrew didn’t win just because he happens to play a superhero. Wolverine and Cyclops were also there! And NPH did a super-swell job as host. But Andrew gets the title for moments like this:
What do you see, Gwen and Peter?
I guess Hayden is going to be in a series called Nashville? She fell off my radar and when I see her I still think Cheerleader. This doesn’t help that:
It’s cheer-style evening wear! Which I am totally into because it is totally heroine chic and because I happen to love cheer-style. But she’s always gonna be the cheerleader this way (not that there’s anything wrong with that, either, I remember little of Heroes beyond her).
